Gender inequity prevents Rural women have access to land and property

The Seminar International Rural Women. Change and persistence "by various civil society organizations today introduced the problem that women have coastal, Andean and Amazonian unauthorized access and control of their land. The first day of the seminar was held with the participation of about 100 researchers, social experts and leaders from Latin America who gathered in the district of Miraflores, Lima.

For the anthropologist, Alejandro Diez, Catholic University, the main difficulty encountered by the Peruvian rural women to access land in their communities, is the standards. "In Peru, the legal framework is contradictory and the rules themselves are often the source of conflict on issues of ownership," he said.

In our country there is a national law, other community and third born of everyday use and customs of communities. However, in all cases the involvement of women is low or almost nil. Invisible state regulation of women's participation, community bylaws not incorporate them, and in rural behavior, which is the prevailing, there are marked differences that favor males.

In this case, the woman only has access to land in a accesitaria, for being the daughter or wife. There are no equal opportunities to acquire land through purchase, have no documents, and through transfer of land or inheritance, the man agrees to a greater amount of land and in some cases only the man who inherits.

Rita Borquez, Chilean sociologist, argues that gender gaps remain at the international level, which reinforces the need to expand the global vision of women and access to land.

also Edilma Flor Osorio of Colombia said that gender inequalities also cause conflicts within families and communities.
Conclusions
To counter the obstacles to women's range formalized or get a property is necessary to facilitate access to documentation (not all have ID, are not considered citizens). The content of the standards must be taken into account in the justice system in communities. There should be a community advocacy, to ensure women's rights and benefits, provide advice and denounce violence. The state must take concrete actions in the loss of land by women, and try to correct the broken bridge that now exists between state regulation, community and rural behavior.
